Your six-year-old is on a soccer team and it is your turn to bring the post-game snack. Instead of handing out a bag of cookies, consider making homemade popsicles for a healthier, refreshing alternative. The treat is easy to make and sure to be a team favorite!
Just follow the directions below.
Recipe time: 15-20 minutes for preparation; 1 hour for freezing
What you will need:
- 1 ice cube tray. Fun-shaped popsicle or ice trays are a great addition.
- Popsicle sticks (from a local craft store)
- 100% fruit juice
- Fresh fruit to compliment your choice of fruit juice
How to make:
- Pour flavored water into your ice cube tray. Dice watermelon, honeydew or strawberry into chunks for texture and tastiness. Or mix your fruit juice and fruit in the blender and pour into the ice cube trays.
- Place the tray in the freezer; freeze until slushy.
- Place popsicle sticks in the center of the slush. (Note: Check back on the sticks after about 30 minutes to make sure they stay put and don’t shift).
- Freeze until solid (about 1 hour).
After the popsicles are completely frozen—voila! Grab a hold of the sticks and gently pull each one out of the ice cube slots and the treats are ready to be served. You have made a healthy, refreshing alternative to an unnecessary, high calorie after game snack.
Add pineapple fruit to your popsicle recipe or consider a berry good version.
